Uwe Haas and Eric Schaefer on modular synthesizer and drums have joined forces, developing a distinctive style that blends electroacoustic soundscapes with dub-inspired grooves. Drawing on Schaefer's background as a jazz drummer and Haas's work as a composer/sound designer, the duo performs live and improvises to allow sonic territories to blossom in unpredictable and fresh ways. Nevertheless, formal clarity and textural architecture remain central elements of their more than decade-long collaboration, which began with Haas's project "Feldneun."
Uwe Haas He has released numerous CDs, composed music for silent films—including commissions for the Czech National Film Archive—and produced music for TV films and documentaries, including the Grimme Award-nominated documentary "The War in Vietnam" and feature films such as Monika Treut's "Ghosted," for which he also created the sound design. He has collaborated with, among others, Tokyo-based composer and media artist Hideaki Takahashi and keyboardist Jörg Hochapfel.
Eric Schaefer He works with various ensembles and as a sideman. His musical expression is broad, combining influences from jazz, contemporary music, post-rock, dub, and noise. He has written pieces for orchestras, piano trios, and jazz-rock bands. The use of gongs and small percussion, as well as modular synthesis, expands Schaefer's sonic possibilities. In addition to extensive tours, his work with Michael Wollny, Joachim Kühn, and his own bands, The Shredz and Kyoto Mon Amour, has been documented on numerous albums and has been broadcast on radio and television.
