Growing up in a small mountain village in Uri in a musical environment, the Swiss pianist founded Gisela Horat In 2009, her trio of the same name.
Since 2015, Gisela Horat has been joined by drummer Samuel Büttiker and the bassist Simon Iten.
They are both experienced musicians with an impressive versatility that encompasses almost every style.
The source of inspiration for Gisela Horat’s compositions are her own experiences, experiences and impressions.
Through improvisation in the moment and mutual inspiration, the pieces always sound different, oscillating between calm and dynamic, and moving somewhere between pop, jazz, minimal music and free improvisation.
But they always tell stories, create moods and tension, and leave the audience room to create their own images.
In addition to the influences of Eric Satie, Bill Evans, Enrico Pieranunzi, Esbjörn Svensson, The Necks and Sylvie Courvoisier The pianist’s classical background is also unmistakable.
This gives the sound-painting and lyrical playing a harmonic framework and thus also appeals to an audience that does not usually find access to jazz.
On September 12, 2025 The Gisela Horat Trio will release its sixth album entitled «Live in Leipzig» release, a concert recording was made on June 15, 2024 at the Mediencampus in Leipzig.
"With her highly individual approach of giving even the softest notes in the piano spectrum sufficient time and space to unfold, Gisela Horat is considered one of the most interesting pianists in contemporary jazz."
