Description of the event:

The Javanese gamelan ensemble Lindhu Raras was formed in Berlin as the
result of a workshop in 2007 with the late Dhalang (puppeteer) and
musician Sri Joko Raharjo. He gave Lindhu Raras its name, which means
harmonious quake in the Javanese language, and encouraged the workshop
participants to continue performing together. Ever since, the ensemble
has grown and developed, bringing together musicians from a rich
diversity of cultural backgrounds and presenting traditional Javanese
music and dance in various settings in Berlin as well as beyond. Most
recently the ensemble has performed at Luftschloss, Villa Kuriosum, as
well as its home at the House of Indonesian Cultures, Berlin.

In a rare performance for the Galiläakirche, the delicate sounds and
layered textures of the gamelan orchestra will expand in the space of
the church as the group performs large pieces and suites from the
classical repertoire of the royal courts of central Java. Lindhu Raras
will be joined by special guests from Hamburg and Budapest for this
evening.
