Description of the event:

CUERO Tango, Founded in Buenos Aires in 2022, the quartet sees itself as the voice of a movement that understands tango not as a museum exhibit, but as a living response to the complexities of our present. In the tradition of "21st-century tango," the quartet consciously avoids the mere reproduction of historical works. Instead, their focus is on creating their own compositions—an artistic endeavor that seeks to capture the identity of a city where contrasting forms and contradictory sounds collide.

CUERO's musical substance stems from a solid education in the talent incubators of the Argentinian metropolis. While Emilio Cossani (electric guitar) graduated from EMPA and Nacho Santos (bandoneon) deepened his knowledge at EMPA, as well as at the SADEM Institute and the Grenoble Conservatory in France, Federico Gómez (piano) and Martina Greiner (cello) from Schärding – both with classical backgrounds – discovered their passion for tango at the Escuela Orlando Goñi. This deeply rooted knowledge of tradition allows the ensemble to respectfully, yet decisively, expand the boundaries of the genre.

With a lineup of bandoneon, piano, cello, and electric guitar, CUERO creates textures that intertwine chamber music depth with the raw energy of the urban environment. It is contemporary music that aspires to capture the fleeting spirit of a global city at a turning point in its history. CUERO invites the audience to turn away from nostalgia and instead listen to a city constantly reinventing itself – an uncompromising portrait of present-day Buenos Aires, translated into a contemporary soundscape.
