Infamous They played their first official concert in 1988 at the Galilee Church together with "Wartburgs für Walter". The band was founded in 1987 by René Schwettge, who was born in Berlin-Friedrichshain; it was also influenced by the legendary Element Of Crime concert at the Zion Church, which was attacked by neo-Nazi skinheads at the time.
Their musical style, a blend of indie blues country, Americana, and Spaghetti Western influences, already differed significantly from the majority of punk bands in East Berlin and the GDR, but was no less subversive. Stylistically, they shared many similarities with the West Berlin band "Die Haut," which was promoted by Nick Cave, who lived in West Berlin from 1983 to 1989 and whose Bad Seeds concert performance in Wim Wenders' 1987 Berlin film classic "Wings of Desire" (Der Himmel über Berlin) cemented his place in the city's collective memory. Musically, it's therefore not surprising that Wenders became a fan of Infamis, albeit belatedly and indirectly. Ultimately, however, the result is what counts: in 2013, he released the Infamis album "Im Westen der Himmel" on his label "Wenders Music"—their seventh album, believe it or not.
Music journalist Christine Heise wrote the following beautiful sentences about Infamis at the time: „The band’s history is long and stylish… These urban cowboys, in the style of Italian Westerns, blaze their trails through Brandenburg, across moors and meadows bordered by willows, unfolding a mysterious depth where others see only flat surfaces… which warns with force and relentlessness where others have already given up. This may seem somewhat out of step with the times, but it is a reminder of the universal character of rock, whose powerful voices are never forgotten.“
We are delighted that Infamis will be making their way through moors and meadows to play a concert at the Galilee Church again after almost 40 years. The occasion is the first release of their album project "Wiedergang" in late summer, which will feature 23 new recordings of old Infamis songs. These will be released in a loose series and limited editions, culminating in a "Best Of" album.
Support: Göllner Krohn Hegyes A brand-new musical alliance of three Berlin underground (usual) suspects. Somewhere between finely chiseled, brutal romanticism and fantastical slow-motion drone. Drums, guitar, clarinet, vocals. Carola Göllner, Alexander Krohn, and Bora Hegyes are key figures in Berlin's art and literary scene, frequently connected through collaborative projects. A central point of contact is the literary milieu surrounding Distillery Verlag (Prenzlauer Berg Collection/Heft zum Watt) and the Kulturpalast Wedding.
