The three musicians from Germany, Austria and the USA met in their adopted home of Berlin and have been playing together in this lineup for over 10 years.

The trio “DRIFT” primarily works with the songs and compositions of guitarist Johannes Haage and drummer Joe Smith. Their focus is on the continuous, collaborative development of often sparsely instrumented material and song structures within a spontaneous, improvisational framework.

The music drifts from sparse to dense, from song structures to freer improvisation, but always remains true to the melody of the respective piece and the uniqueness of the moment.

The band presents their interpretations of jazz standards and selected original compositions, which can be heard on their last three albums “Cycles”, “Wings” and “Darwin’s Blues”.
