The pianist, born and raised in Poland Marta Warelis (1986), who graduated with honors from the WSJiMR in Wrocław, is a vibrant artist with a strong inclination toward improvisation and experimentation in all genres. She is constantly searching for immediate compositions based on new sounds and influences. Her work is inspired by music from all over the world, including cumbia, Angolan dance music, jazz, Western classical music, and various schools of free improvisation. Marta moved to Groningen in 2010 to study at the Prins Claus Conservatorium. Since 2014, she has lived in Amsterdam and quickly became an active member of the improvisation scene there.
Marta performs frequently at Bimhuis, where she received a Carte Blanche in 2017 in recognition of her remarkable talent. She performs with a wide range of creative musicians, including Michael Moore, Ab Baars, Mike Reed, Andy Moor, Joost Buis, dancers Lily Kiara and Michael Shumacher, and groups such as Hupata!, Omawi, Future Neighbor, Polyband, Edge Ensemble, Strings5, Xavier Pamplona, Warelis/Rosaly/Lumley/Dikeman, and Bazooka.
Ziv Taubenfeld, born in the Galil region of northern Israel, is a bass clarinetist, composer, and improviser. After establishing himself as a key figure in the Amsterdam jazz and improvisation scene and collaborating with artists such as Han Bennink, Rozemarie Heggen, and Tobias Delius, Taubenfeld recently relocated to Lisbon. While improvisation remains at the heart of Taubenfeld's work, his main project, Full Sun, frequently explores large-scale compositions. Recently, he has collaborated with Ab Baars, Ada Rave, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Frank Graktowski, Olie Brice, and Carlos "Zingaro," among others.
Dan Peter Sundland was born on July 15, 1986, in Oslo, Norway, and grew up in Børsa, a village near Trondheim, Norway. The electric bassist and composer is active in the jazz and improvisational scene in Norway and Berlin. His playing is characterized by an expressive, versatile technique that incorporates cello-like bowing and a wide range of percussive colors. His discography includes compositions for his own eleven-piece ensemble Elevenette, the Berlin-based improvisational quartet Home Stretch, as well as sideman work and collectives such as Lina Allemano's Ohrenschmaus, Simon Kanzler's Hardcore Opera, and the singer-songwriter Port Almond.
