Description of the event:

na-mute-na: Istanbul electroacoustic nights #3 is an experimental music concert series that focuses on electroacoustic and improvised sound practices in Berlin and Istanbul. It aims to be part of a long-standing exchange between two cities and to broaden the scene beyond national borders. “na-mute-na” is a term evoking the word "mute"—to silence. Framed with the prefix "na-" and the mirrored suffix "-na", it suggests a reversal or undoing of that silencing: to unmute, to resist being muted, to speak again.

Melih Sarıgöl & Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu

The modular synth and cello duo Melih Sarıgöl and Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu are based in Berlin, Germany. Their debut album “Sweet Little Drowsy Being Lost Its Slumber” released in February 2026. As a duo, they explore tools to create a sound world that excites and surprises them while offering a sense of grounding. This approach leads them to a constant movement across genres, including noise, free improvisation, contemporary classical music, and Turkish makam–based melodic fragments. In this process, Melih extends his instrument through live processing modules, while Ayşe integrates Turkish makam flavours and effects.

Oğuz Büyükberber

Award winning clarinetist composer Oğuz Büyükberber’s wide ranging work can be heard on over 60 CDs of original music for acoustic and electronic formations. His visual impairment has shaped the way he learns, creates and teaches. As a life long student, he studied bass clarinet, composition, electronic music and visual arts, and holds multiple degrees. His work was featured on DownBeat, WIRE, Mezzo, ORF, BBR, VPRO and many other international broadcast channels. He has published a book of his own approach to composition and improvisation, recorded for ECM and Blue Note, composed for renowned ensembles such as Orkest De Ereprijs, Kairos String Quartet, Spinifex and many others. Living in The Netherlands for more than 25 years, Büyükberber taught at universities worldwide and was invited to prestigious residencies such as the EMS, Erica Synths HQ, STEIM and Willem Twee.

Lâkin: Neslihan Schmidt and Korhan Erel

Pianist Neslihan Schmidt and electronics player Korhan Erel are Lâkin, a piano-electronics duo developing a repertoire of commissioned and self-composed pieces, as well as structured improvisations. At their concert at the Galiläakirche church, they will perform pieces based on ideas they have developed over the past year of collaborating together.

Penelope Gkika and JD Zazie

The violinist Penelope Gkika will present an electroacoustic duo set with electronic musician JD Zazie, blending melodies from traditional Greek music that have deep roots in the old Byzantine capital, along with processed samples and field recordings.
