Persian Musical Heritage: Instruments & Dastgah-e Chahargah

Santur, kamancheh, gheychak, tombak, and ney are instruments that can be traced back to Persian antiquity. Their unique sonic qualities and the intricate performance techniques transport listeners to a different era. These instruments are celebrated for their expressive range and deep historical roots, offering an immersive gateway into the cultural tapestry of Persia.

Dastgah-e Chahargah, one of the less commonly performed of the twelve modal systems in classical Persian music today, invokes vitality, courage, and spiritual optimism—qualities much needed in the present day.

Line-Up:

Hossein Taghinejad (santur)
James Wylie (kamancheh, gheychak)
Roshanak Rafani (tombak)
Bastian Duncker (ney)
