Thomas Borgmann – reeds
Jan Roder – bass
Joe Hertenstein – drums
Saxophone meets drums meets bass – with full force.
In long, often flowing pieces created Thomas Borgmann, Jan Roder and Joe Hertenstein a music that oscillates between lyrically peaceful and ecstatic phases as well as between spacious and dense playing.
Thomas Borgmann, founder of the quartet Ruf Der Heimat,
is actually a conservative. He belongs to the close circle of a successor generation that preserves the legacy of those who, inspired by Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, and others, demanded and implemented radical changes in jazz in the 1960s, and are far from finished with this attitude.
Eric Mandel
Long-term trio work with Wilber Morris & Denis Charles and (after Charles' death) Reggie Nicholson “BMN” as well as diverse collaborations with artists such as Borah Bergman, William Parker, Peter Brötzmann, Roy Campbell, Thurston Moore etc.
Releases on CDs & LPs and appearances at international festivals.
He is currently also working with Willi Keller's in the trio “Boom Box” and in “Keys & Screws”.
Jan Roder (incidentally, a successful swimmer and winner of numerous competitions) moves with equal dedication and confidence in the sea between jazz and free improvisational music. He demonstrates the enormous technical possibilities of the bass and illuminates the variety of timbres and expressive possibilities that this four-stringed instrument is capable of producing.
Aki Takase
His playing is characterized by the specific gestures of jazz. His solos are narratives in which the improvisations move from one landscape to another. An unplanned shift from light to dark is like a secret to be kept.

In 2007, he moved to New York City and received a Master of Arts in Jazz Studies from Queens College.

During my stays in New York, I always knew when to say “onblockwest” when arriving in Williamsburg by taxi at night.
