YOUTH RESISTANCE IN THE GDR

DSC 0901

The exhibition is currently being renovated and is scheduled to reopen in 2025. We will keep you updated.

The permanent exhibition offers an insight into resistance structures shaped by youth culture in the former East Berlin district of Friedrichshain in the years 1948-1989. The district's long tradition of resistance is particularly highlighted. Many GDR youth opposition groups established themselves under the roofs of Protestant churches, including our Galilee Church, where people could speak out openly against state repression, network and provide impetus for the peaceful revolution of 1989.
