The Friedrichshain district group of the Berliner Mietergemeinschaft eV invites you to an open information event and offers space and support for regular meetings and self-help.

on the subject of conversion into condominiums, termination due to personal use, environmental protection and eviction proceedings

“Their house was converted into condominiums.”

Many households in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg received this message from the district office in their mailboxes at the end of January this year. The affected tenants often don't know what this means for them.

Converting rental apartments into condominiums is often the first step toward the loss of affordable housing: expensive modernization measures or even eviction for personal use often follow. While there are protection periods, especially in so-called neighborhood protection areas, these will expire in the foreseeable future for many affected tenants. We don't want to simply wait and accept the threat of eviction!

As a district group of the Friedrichshain Tenants' Association, we would like to use this information event to highlight possible courses of action with which we can counteract terminations and threatened lawsuits for personal use!

Concrete steps that tenants can take as a result of the conversion will be presented and discussed, e.g.:

• Obtaining initial legal advice,
• Organising solidarity-based apartment viewing accompaniment,
• joint preparation for possible personal use claims

We are supported at this event by... (lawyer specializing in tenancy law),..., as well as members of the E3K alliance (personal use does not require notice of termination).

Follow-up meetings to this event are planned at regular intervals at the tenant shop on Kreuziger Straße. Keep an eye out for notices!
