PERPERÚNA ENSEMBLE - CONTEMPORARY FOLK POLYPHONY FROM BERLIN

Since its official founding in 2020, the five members of Perperúna Ensemble, driven by their shared passion for Greek, Balkan and Sephardic oral traditions, have focused on researching, preserving, reinterpreting and passing on female polyphonic singing, often using performative elements.

With a collection of reinterpreted folk songs and their hidden stories, inspired by disappearing cultural heritage, they create a unique contemporary polyphonic sound and invite you to an immersive world of sonic diversity from the Balkans and the Mediterranean diaspora.

Perperúna's interpretations are not traditionally static, but contemporary and playfully inquisitive. They span a vibrant, genre-crossing arc from gentle, touching sounds to powerful, celebratory, and rousing vocals.

Opening Act: Yaelllavie

Yaelllavie is a versatile, interdisciplinary artist and musician known for her masterful, contemporary playing of the kanun – an ancient Middle Eastern stringed instrument. She is famous for blending traditional maqam melodies with electronic beats, ambient sounds, and spiritual jazz.
