Die Konzertreihe „Muttersaft“ präsentiert: Dasom Baek / iYi / Milchtritt

Dasom Baek is a Seoul based composer and performer of traditional Korean instruments, specialising in the Daegeum and Sogeum, types of ancient Korean bamboo flute that have a deep historic and cultural significance.

‘’I think the charm of wind instruments is that their sound is based on how you breathe. The stories I’ve kept in my mind I breathe into the instrument - they become music’’.

On her latest album Mirror City, Dasom explores ideas of solitude and community within cities and the effects this has on inhabitants. Wishing to hold a mirror up to modern life, she uses music to express the emotions of the people living in the city. “People have plenty of choices and the convergence of all these choices create infinite possibilities in the city. What impact have I left on my city through my choices?”

Dasom’s contemporary expression of these ancient instruments bridges the gap between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary sonic experimentation. Sparse and spacious, Mirror City layers textured ambient sounds and chopped dusty vocal patterns, all set to the rasping and rich timbres of the Daegeum and Sogeum.

Band 1:

iYi was formed by Runa Ikeda, Frida Eun Ae Yngvesson and Shinichiro Ikeda in Berlin in 2016 as an interdisciplinary art collective creating site specific and immersive performances and installations. They are interested in how sound, movement and different forms of visuals can blend together and form holistic experiences in physical installations or live performances.

Their practice is based in improvisation and embodiment, and as a collective they explore themes such as dreams, rituals, fantasy, eeriness and juxtapositions. They will perform their new piece "Metamorphosis".

Band 2: Milchtritt is an exploratory venture of Philip Hölldobler. The current focus is to employ an acoustic voice and evoke a second synthetic voice on it that is using the acoustic signal as substrate while in turn feeding back influence into the acoustic play, melting into each other to varying degrees.

Augmenting manual instrumentation with synthetic power in improvisational performance within a preconceived shape. Milchtritt sometimes drones, sometimes barks. Implanting electronic reagents into instrumental placenta, fondling and choking the mess, gurgling up to excrete foul flowers of stereophonic sound.
