Staubgold, Galilee Church and liebig12 present: Klangwart
The „Elder Statesmen of Neo-Krautrock“: The electronic duo Klangwart was aptly described by an imaginative music journalist when he presented their album "Transit," which, among other accolades, was chosen as Album of the Year in the "Avant-Rock" category of The Wire's 2016 critics' poll. The label is an understandable attempt to categorize one of the most distinctive phenomena in the electronic music scene. Perhaps a more fitting term would be... „Under-Statesmen“, Minimalism and understatement are central elements of the Klangwart project, founded in 1996 by musician and author Timo Reuber and DJ and Staubgold label manager Markus Detmer. Every few years, the duo appears seemingly out of nowhere, releases a critically acclaimed Klangwart album, plays a few concerts, and then disappears again. This may seem like suicide, as it defies all the established rules of the music industry. But behind it lies a deep longing for authentic expression at the boundary between avant-garde and entertainment.
In 2014, Klangwart traveled to the Colombian capital to gather the material for „"Bogotá"“ to record with protagonists of the local music scene: Damián Ponce (drums), César Quevedo (bass), and Eblis Álvarez (cello), members of The Meridian Brothers, as well as the singers Juanita and Valentina Áñez Rothmann, also known as Las Áñez. The result, released in 2019 on Staubgold, was the unmistakable Klangwart sound, permeated by a Latin American pulse and corresponding tonality. In autumn 2026, Klangwart will release their new album to coincide with their 30th anniversary. „"Wilderness"“ to be released. Besides Markus Detmer and Timo Reuber, the French drummer and saxophonist Sébastien del Grande is involved, as well as, on the cover version of the Grauzone hit "Eisbär" – here: Os Polar – the Catalan singer and multi-instrumentalist Ivan Telefunken. Klangwart will perform live as a trio with electronics, turntables, saxophone and percussion.
